A lovely example of the Austrian M1916 steel helmet. The position of the rivets is slightly different from the more common German M1916 helmet. A number of Austrian helmets were sold to the Finnish Army in the 1920s and were later used in the Winter War against Russia. The green paint and the leather and metal chinstrap indicate that this was one of them. Interestingly the liner is the original Austrian liner, many of the helmets have a replaced Finnish liner and an extra rivet on each side of the shell. This has the original intact. 

The original Austrian grey paint can be seen under the Finnish green where the latter has chipped or worn. As is normal with these reissued helmets, the paint has covered over the Austrian maker mark. Some minor chipping and wear but in far better than average condition for these.
