Awarded by the puppet government of Manchuria to the Japanese and Manchurian forces who fought against the Russians in the 1938 Border War in Mongolia. The Russians were led by General Zhukov and comprehensively beat the Japanese, who then turned their strategic focus south with tragic consequences. This is the scarcer "large orchid" version of the medal.
