The long-standing stalemate in the Balkans was broken at Dobro Polje by a small Franco-Serbian force on 17 September 1918 precipitating a chain reaction of events that broke the Bulgarian army forcing Bulgaria out of the war, isolating the German 11th Army which surrendered and forcing Turkey to seek peace.
