Both certificates are dated 1915 and are awarded to an Infantry Lieutenant. The promotion certificate is from 2nd Lieutenant to Lieutenant. The recipient is the holder of a 6th class Rising Sun or Sacred Treasure which suggests that he saw service at the start of WWI and was awarded a 6th Class Rising Sun for this. The other possibility is that he was a veteran NCO who was promoted to officer rank and got a Sacred Treasure for long service, but that is less likely.
