Often colloquially called the Black & Tan Medal, this was awarded for service during the Anglo Irish War. This is the version without the Comhrac bar and was awarded to those who were either politically active from 1917-21 or who were members of the IRA, Irish Citizen's Army, Fianna or Cumann na mBan but were not deemed to have been on active service (ie taking up arms) between 1st April 1920 to 11th July 1921. 

A total of 47,644 were awarded without bar (only 15,224 with the bar). This one has had the ribbon re-stitched by the recipient at some stage. Complete with its original top suspender bar.
